I began this painting on a blustery day on the weekend of the Paint-Out. The wind knocked over my easel at one point, and I ended the session before I was satisfied with the piece. But I wanted to continue with it in the studio, rather than start over. The windy weather fit right in with the history of this building: A survivor of a 1908 tornado which devastated the area and killed about 35 people. This inspired me to transform the painting into a rendition of the historic moment.
